Tiwini is the founding doctor of the practice formerly known as Tuhikaramea Medical Centre.  He has been in practice since 1998. He is a former Maori All Black and has a keen interest in sports medicine. He is actively involved in the practice, the church and his community. He is married to Arnelle and they have six children.

Peace was an O&G doctor in China before coming to New Zealand 20 years ago. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.  She was previously a LMC midwife in Auckland and Hamilton for 6 years. Her special interests are in O&G care.

Dr Bernard Werlberger

Graduated 1985 in Germany and has a longstanding involvement in general practice, emergency and hospital medicine with experience in different medical disciplines. His far reaching interests beyond evidence based medicine include classic sciences, technology, history and literature.  Enjoying travelling, nature and keeping animals have always been a lifelong passion.

Dr Michael Oehley

Michael is an experienced G.P. and medical educator with a special interest in travel medicine. In his clinical practice, his focus is preventative health, family medicine and thorough investigation of clinical problems. On Tuesdays he operates the independent Waikato Travel Clinic at Avalon Medical. For further information and bookings, see

Michael lives in Horotiu with his wife, two kids, cat and three chickens. In his spare time he enjoys exercise, reading, travelling and exploring the Waikato.

Dr Tina Ledingham
Currently on Maternity Leave

Tina joined the Avalon team in May 2017. She has spent some years working in Auckland after graduating from Otago University in 2007. Tina has been working in General Practice since 2011. Prior to this, she worked in all the major Auckland hospitals including Starship, practicing Medical and Surgical Child Health. She also spent a year working as an Orthopaedic Registrar prior to joining General Practice. She enjoys all aspects of General Practice, especially Child Health, Orthopaedics, and Musculoskeletal Medicine.  Tina is currently on maternity leave and is expected to re-join the team in October 2019.

Practice Nurse Manager: Tash

Tash joined Avalon Medical in 2018 after studying and working in Auckland.  She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing and enjoy all aspects of practice nursing including the variety of health status and age. In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors particularly scuba diving and travelling.

Practice Nurse Leader: Tania

Tania has been working at Avalon Medical now since 2014 and came to us with 15+ years of nursing experience in a variety of areas.  She most enjoys the acute and minor surgery aspects of practice nursing at Avalon Medical.  In her spare time she enjoys family time and pampering.

Practice Nurse Raewyn - joined the practice in 2018.  Raewyn works here on a casual basis and also elsewhere as an Immunisation Outreach Nurse.  Her interests are Family, Nature, Te Reo and Rongoa/Herbs.

Practice Nurse Jackie - joined the practice in 2018, she comes with 20 years nursing experience in Primary Health Care.  She enjoys preventative medicine and maintaining patients' well-being, and spending time with family and friends in her spare time.

Bernadette has worked in medical centres in both the Waikato and Wellington regions spanning more than 24 years.  She enjoys dealing with patients both in person and by phone.  Another aspect she enjoys is the fact that no two days are the same; the tasks she does and the people she meets provides interest everyday.

Sundee is the Practice Manager to this busy practice.  Juggling high demands and deadlines is something she has learned to deal with on a regular basis. She loves her work and the ability to interact with patients for any concerns they may have.  Going the extra mile for our patients is one thing she is always willing to do.  She is married to Mark, attends church and loves her family. 


Claims Officer: Christine

Christine has been with the practice since August 2017.  Her experience includes 8 years frontline reception duties and claims and accounts reconciliation.  She enjoys assisting patients with a caring, kind approach to make their overall patient experience a good one.   She enjoys spending time with family and friends.  He aha te mea nunui oo te ao, He tangata - What is the greatest thing in the world, people.   E hoa maa,Ina te ora oo te tangata - My friend, This is the essence of life.
